Emrys Health exists to help the UK reclaim control, value and trust in how critical health technology is designed, governed and delivered.
Who we are
Emrys Health brings together public sector leaders, researchers, technologists and contributors who believe the future of health technology should be open, trustworthy and shaped in the public interest.
Rather than delivering a single product, we convene a community effort to define standards, develop reusable components and embed assurance into the foundations of health technology across the UK.
Health and care services are under increasing pressure to modernise, share data safely and deliver better outcomes. Yet progress is often constrained by fragmented systems, rising complexity and digital foundations that public organisations do not fully control.
Short-term solutions can accelerate delivery, but they frequently increase long-term dependency, limit interoperability and move strategic control away from the health system itself.
What we believe
Our work is guided by a simple conviction: modern health technology should serve the public interest first. That means systems designed for trust, adaptability and long-term value, not short-term convenience or lock-in.
Public value first
Data infrastructure should serve public outcomes, not extract value from them.
Sovereignty by design
Control, decision-making and intellectual property should remain within the health system.
Open and collaborative
Shared standards and open components enable faster, safer innovation at scale.
Assurance as a foundation
Governance, security and compliance must be embedded from the start, not added later.
How we work
Contributors across the ecosystem define best practice, standards and safeguards based on real-world experience. Emrys Health curates and supports this work, helping turn it into dependable, reusable building blocks.
Public-serving organisations can then adopt these foundations at their own pace, integrate them with existing systems and shape their own digital direction with confidence.
Built on integrity
and trust
Trust is foundational to everything Emrys does.
Our work is guided by principles of data sovereignty, transparency and public accountability. We design systems where governance and compliance are embedded into the architecture, not added as an afterthought.
By prioritising assurance-first design and open standards, we help organisations demonstrate responsible data use while maintaining public confidence.
Architecture
Our role in the ecosystem
Emrys Health does not replace existing platforms, vendors or programmes. We work alongside them. By focusing on shared foundations rather than end-to-end systems, we help create the conditions for interoperability, resilience and long-term independence while remaining compatible with established technologies and providers.
Public sector organisations
We support healthcare bodies, researchers and government teams to adopt modern technology on their own terms, with sovereignty, transparency and long-term value built in.
Technology providers
We collaborate with leading technology companies to modularise proven platforms into interoperable components, extending reach without imposing lock-in.

Public value & trust
Our architecture embeds governance, assurance and accountability by design, helping public organisations protect citizen data while delivering better outcomes.
Open collaboration
By working to shared standards, partners can contribute, integrate and innovate within an open ecosystem that benefits the whole sector.
Emrys Health is led by a team with deep experience across healthcare, public services, data architecture and large-scale technology delivery.
Looking Ahead
A bright future for UK healthcare technology
We are building towards a future where the UK leads in health innovation through infrastructure that is open, trusted and designed for public value.
2025
Launch the collective
Emrys is establishing the foundations for a new model of health technology, starting with shared principles, open standards and a clear vision for public value.
This phase is about alignment: bringing together public organisations, technology partners and contributors on a community mission.
2026
Building shared infrastructure
Core architectural components, governance models and assurance frameworks are developed, tested and adopted through real public-sector use cases.
The emphasis is on interoperability, security and proving that modular, open systems can work at scale.
Mid Term
Scaling adoption and impact
Reusable components and standards begin to spread across organisations, regions and programmes.
Successful models are replicated rather than rebuilt, reducing cost, accelerating innovation and strengthening national capability.
Long Term
A trusted national foundation
The UK operates on a resilient, sovereign health data infrastructure that supports research, innovation and public services without reliance on monolithic platforms.
Citizens benefit from faster innovation, stronger safeguards and greater confidence in how health data is used.
